My Story
Since the age of four, my dream of becoming a nurse and helping others had always been embedded in my heart. My baby dolls and my baby brother were my "patients," and watching medical shows was my favorite pastime. Working at St. Jude's had always been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. At the age of 15, I endured a series of traumas that led me down a dark path; however, my dream of becoming a nurse never left my heart. During my senior year in high school, I became pregnant. While many believed that all hope for me was lost, my family did not share that view. Even as a teenager, my son became my motivation to change my life and pursue my dream of becoming a registered nurse.
My Career
In 2004, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I specialized in oncology and worked in this field for over 10 years, before transitioning to orthopedics, medical/surgical care, post-operative care, and bariatric care. In 2015, I became a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. For 7 years, I served as a primary care provider, working in the heart of Phoenix and, for some time, in northern Texas, where I creatively addressed the medical needs of the most vulnerable populations. After recognizing the significant role that mental health played in my practice, I returned to school and became dual-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in 2022.
My Specialties
As a psychiatric provider, I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and adults aged 6 and older who are dealing with a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, insomnia, ADHD, trauma, OCD, schizophrenia, and substance abuse.
As a family nurse practitioner, I work with patients of all ages, focusing on diagnosing, treating, and making referrals when appropriate. I believe that collaboration is essential for effective care.
My Fun Facts
I grew up as a military brat in the Air Force and traveled the world, living in Nebraska, Panama, Puerto Rico, Texas, Japan, and Hawaii. I am married and a mother of six. My family lives in Puerto Rico, so I often travel there. Shopping, and I must admit, cleaning, are my two guilty pleasures!
